In 2017, I started walking or hiking in the woods around my home almost daily. I also began photographing what I found along the way. I am also a poet, and often write poems about the natural world and my place in it. In these books, I combine my love of nature, photography and words into books that allow you to journey through the woods right alongside me.
A celebration of nature and a journey of discovery.
Michele walks almost daily through the woods on her property in beautiful Brown County, Indiana, where she falls in love with the trees and native plants, the frogs and mushrooms and spiders. She watches the woods over a single year, through "the cycle of spring blooming, summer ripening, autumn turning & winter pulling back."
By pairing new poems with her own photography, Michele invites us to join her on a walk in the woods, where we can explore "Forest walks as a way of questioning nature, as a way of being in the world."

"I'll make a study of fallen logs: a fallen-log-ology. I'll watch the way the trees surrender their bodies to the forest floor."
Thus Michele Heather Pollock - visual artist, poet, woods-walker - explores the forest floor near her home in Brown County, Indiana. Through her poetry, essays and photography, she searches for interesting wildlife, strange transformations, the quiet of being alone in the woods, and a few answers to the question of what it means to be human.
This project was supported in part by an Individual Advancement Program grant from the Indiana Arts Commission.
