Indiana Dunes National Park is unique in that it features many, many distinct habitat types within a single park. Because of this, it is one of the most biodiverse parks in the U.S. (even though it is also one of the smallest). When I was artist in residence at Indiana Dunes National Park in fall of 2025, I explored as many of these habitats as I could.
This miniature artist book is comprised of nine tiny quilts, each featuring one of the habitats I explored, sketched, and photographed while I was there: lake, beach, dunes, wetland, prairie, bog, forest, oak savanna, and pine barrens. The unique book construction developed in my studio frames each dimensional quilt, and because of its accordion structure, the book can be displayed to that all of the content is visible at the same time.
